How To Meditate In A Sauna

If you’re new to meditating then you might be surprised by how easy it is to do while in the sauna. The extreme heat that saunas promote relax your body. Making your sore muscles feel better. The sauna also gives you a moment in time where you can relax and do nothing. You just sit there and let your mind go off into whatever direction you want it to go.

Since this naturally happens when you’re in a sauna, it makes it really easy to meditate. With that being said you want to follow the below steps to ensure you meditate successfully.

Meditating In The Sauna
Before first getting into the sauna you want to make sure you have a few things prepared. First, you want to set the sauna to your desired temperature. When the sauna is finished heating up you can enter it with a towel and water bottle. (You always want to make sure you bring water in with you as you sweat profusely while in the sauna.)

Once inside you should sit up straight with your back leaning against the sauna wall. Place your hands comfortably in your lap and let your anxiety/stress melt away with the heat.

Once you begin to feel comfortable you want to close your eyes. Begin to start breathing in and out deeply as you feel your body relax. Focus on the warm air inflating your lungs and the feeling of calmness enter into your body.

As you begin to sweat let all the pain in your muscles fade away. Focus on breathing and let any negative energy leave your body as you sweat it out. Just breath, relax and exhale.

At first, the gentle warmth will feel relaxing and calming. Soon this heat will rise and you will begin to sweat profusely. As this is happening just keep on focusing on your breathing. If your mind travels to other thoughts just correct yourself and begin to focus on your breathing again.

Eventually, this warmth will turn into intense heat. Just keep on breathing with your eyes closed and watch as your anxiety completely leaves your body. All you feel in heat, sweat, and comfort.

If you start to feel a little uncomfortable then take a drink of water. After this continue on with your breathing techniques and continue to sweat.

At this point, your body will be covered in sweat and your mind/body will be completely relaxed. If you feel as if your meditation session should be over then you can stop. But, if you still feel anxiety or pain then continue on with the meditation. Just keep on breathing and exhaling until you feel you’re completely relaxed and in-tune with your body.

As you complete your sauna session you will have feelings of euphoria flowing through your body. You will notice how your attitude for the day changes as you’ll be happier. The soreness you have in your body will slightly fade away and you will just feel great overall.

These are the feelings that you’re searching for when meditating in the sauna. If you accomplish this then you know you’re on the right path with meditating. If you don’t reach these feelings then continue on meditating regularly. Eventually, it will start to become easy and you’ll begin to enjoy it much more.

Other Things That Can Aid Your Relaxation

Meditation isn’t the only thing you can do to enhance your relaxation while in the sauna. So if meditating isn’t something you like to do or you just want to try something else then try the following options down below.

* Essential Oils: Essential Oils are oils that contain aroma compounds. These compounds usually come from plants and give off an extreme fragrance that is pleasant to most people. These essential oils can be used to alter one’s mood or psychological well-being. This will, of course, can improve your sauna experience and enhance your energy, mood, and relaxation.

Aside from their mental benefits, essential oils can also improve the sterility within the sauna. Making the sauna a much safer environment.

* Music: If meditating isn’t something you like to do then simply listening to music can enhance your relaxation. Just bring your iPhone in the sauna and listen to calm music. Sounds such as waves or crickets are very effective at relaxing you. So give it a try and practice listening to calming music while in the sauna.

* Yoga: While it might sound counterproductive, it’s actually very effective to relax your mind/body by doing yoga in the sauna. This is because yoga involves complete concentration. This concentration takes your mind off of other stressful things in your life and allows you to focus on only one thing.

Along with this, the stretching in yoga relieves in the pain in your body. This relaxation will then transfer to your mind as you feel relaxed overall. So if you want to do an exercise that also relaxes you then you might want to give hot yoga a try.
